Math Update

Third Grade Third grade students finished working in Martina and Fizz and have no homework for next Friday. Their homework are the thinking problems for this week. They were to find at least one way to use the following 5 numbers: 4, 9, 5, -1, 6 to make -3 and 3, 6, 4, 2, 11 to make 9. Fourth Grade Fourth graders began Hands on Equations, a manipulatetive way to work on algebra. They were to find at least one way to use the following 5 numbers: 4, 9, 5, -1, 6 to make -3 and 3, 6, 4, 2, 11 to make 9. The more ways they can find to solve this problem, the more their thinking will be challenged. Fifth Grade Fifth graders are continuing Accentuate the Negative in math and they are to do at 1.2, 1.3 qand 1.4 for homework. They are also to find at least one way to use the following 5 numbers: 4, 9, 5, -1, 6 to make -3 and 3, 6, 4, 2, 11 to make 9. The more ways they find to solve this problem, the more their thinking will be challenged.

Reading Update

Third Grade Third grade students began a new book this week called The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Their homework is to read to page 106 for Monday. Students are to write at least a 4 sentence paragraph that is a text-to-self, text, or world connection. Fourth Grade Fourth graders started reading The Song of Sampo Lake by William Durbin. Their homework is to read to page 139 for Wednesday. At page 120 they are to write a 5 sentence paragraph that is a text to self, text or world connection. Fifth Grade Fifth graders are having a short poetry unit until winter break. They wrote a poem "All My Important Thinking Gets Done In The......" If this is done, there is no assignment.

Reading Update

Third Grade Third grade students began a new book this week called The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Their homework is to read to page 44 for Monday. I you would still like a copy of the powerpoint students did, please send in a flash drive and I will copy it for you. Fourth Grade Fourth graders started reading The Song of Sampo Lake by William Durbin. Their homework is to read to page 87 for Wednesday. At page 48 they were to have writen a 5 sentence paragraph that was a text to self, text or world connection. If that is not finished, then that needs to be completed. Fifth Grade Fifth graders are having a short poetry unit until winter break. Their assignment was to write a poem using their name. Many turned it in, but if they did not, it is due on Thursday.

Their thinking problems were to find at least one way to use the following 5 numbers: 4, 7, 5, -3, 8 to make -6 and 3, 6, 4, 5, 9 to make 15. The more ways they can find to solve this problem, the more their thinking will be challenged. Fifth Grade Fifth graders presented their bicycle tour brochure and their findings about cost, expenxes and profit. We began Acdcentuate the Negative in math and they are to look at 1.2 for homework. Their thinking problem for this week is to find at least one way to use the following 5 numbers: 4, 7, 5, -3, 8 to make -6 and 3, 6, 4, 5, 9 to make 15. The more ways they find to solve this problem, the more their thinking will be challenged.
